A sushi restaurant reopened after renovating in March, 2017 in Sakitsu community. Fresh fish unloaded at the local port are chewy, tasty and smell good. “Chirashi Sushi” (rice topped with sashimi and other ingredients like eggs and cucumbers) is also popular. You should call the restaurant in advance to make sure the restaurant is open since they have irregular days off.

Sakitsu community is one of the hidden Christian sites in Nagasaki and Amakusa and was listed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 2018. You can enjoy the streetscape which is mixed with Christian culture and Japanese traditional fishing village culture. Beautiful scenery of Japanese culture meshed with Western culture is giving us a nostalgic feeling.

Oetenshudo Church was built by Father Garnier using his own funds. He was engaged in mission work for the rest of his life. This Romanesque white church is set off against the blue sky. Taking a picture or video is prohibited inside the church.

Scenery of large and small rocks sticking out from the ocean and pine trees on the shore is pretty rough but makes you feel calm and relaxed. If you are lucky, you can watch Ospreys flying over the ocean.
